SALARY: Appropriate placement on the District Certified Salary Schedule – Nadaburg is a Four-Day School Week District

 

OVERVIEW This position involves working with students who have a variety of disabilities in grades K-8. The teacher will utilize engaging and research-based instructional techniques to advance student learning. In addition, the Special Education Teacher will design and teach appropriate curricula, assign work geared toward each student's needs and abilities, and grade papers and homework assignments. As schools become more inclusive, special education teachers and general education teachers increasingly work together in general education classrooms. The Special Education Teacher will assist general educators in adapting curriculum materials and teaching techniques to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Must hold valid Arizona Teacher Certification with approved area/endorsement as needed for the position.
  • Must hold appropriate Special Education certificate.
  • Must be Highly Qualified in the subject area of position at the time of hire.
  • No convictions for felonies or crimes against children.
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card.


ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS

  • Be understanding of students' special needs, and accepting of differences in others
  • Use various techniques to promote learning.
  • Develop and implement compliant IEPs
  • Review the IEP with the student's parents, school administrators, and the student's general education teachers.
  • Work closely with parents to inform them of their children's progress and suggest techniques to promote learning outside of school.

  • Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with carrying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvements.
  • Maintains effective and efficient record-keeping procedures.
  • Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
  • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
  • Ensures that student growth and achievement are continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and schools.
  • Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her course and school-wide student performance goals.
  • Demonstrates gains in student performance.
  • Participates in professional growth training.
  • Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordination.
