JOB SUMMARY 

 

The Food Services Coordinator provides leadership, oversight, and management of the district’s Child Nutrition/Food Services Program. This role ensures full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including those set forth by the Arizona Department of Education and United States Department of Agriculture. The Coordinator is responsible for program administration, staff supervision, financial management, training, reporting, and continuous improvement of food service operations to ensure safe, nutritious, and efficient meal service for all students.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

Program Leadership & Oversight

  • Direct and oversee all district food service operations across all sites.
  • Develop and implement department goals aligned with district strategic priorities. 
  • Ensure high-quality, nutritious meal programs that meet student needs.
  • Monitor daily operations for efficiency, safety, and effectiveness.

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight 

  • Ensure full compliance with all federal and state requirements, including: National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), and Summer Food Service Program (as applicable).
  • Maintain compliance with guidelines from: the Arizona Department of Education and  United States Department of Agriculture
  • Prepare for and lead administrative reviews and audits.
  • Maintain all required documentation, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation procedures (HACCP).

Financial Management 

  • Develop and manage the food services budget.
  • Monitor revenues, expenditures, and program sustainability.
  • Oversee free/reduced meal program processes and verification.
  • Ensure accurate meal counting and claiming procedures.
  • Maximize reimbursement opportunities and cost efficiency.

Student Accounts & Meal Balances 

  • Oversee student meal account systems to ensure accuracy and accountability. 
  • Monitor student account balances to ensure accounts remain current.
  • Develop and implement procedures for managing negative balances in alignment with district policy.
  • Ensure timely and clear communication with families regarding account status.
  • Collaborate with site staff to maintain accurate point-of-sale transactions and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations related to unpaid meal charges and student meal access.

Training & Staff Development 

  • Supervise and evaluate site kitchen managers and food service staff.
  • Provide ongoing training in: Food safety and sanitation, Meal compliance and regulations, Customer service and Point-of-sale systems.
  • Develop onboarding and annual training plans.
  • Build leadership capacity within site-based staff.

Reporting & Data Management 

  • Complete and submit all required state and federal reports accurately and on time.
  • Maintain accurate records for: Meal counts, Claims for reimbursement, Production records and Inventory.
  • Utilize data to improve participation, efficiency, and program outcomes.

Procurement & Inventory 

  • Oversee purchasing and vendor relationships in compliance with procurement laws.
  • Ensure proper inventory control and cost management.
  • Coordinate food ordering, delivery, and storage procedures.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and coordinate maintenance/repairs.

Menu Planning & Nutrition 

  • Ensure menus meet USDA nutritional guidelines.
  • Collaborate on menu planning to ensure student appeal and participation.
  • Accommodate special dietary needs in compliance with regulations.
  • Promote healthy eating habits across the district.

Customer Service & Communication 

  • Serve as district liaison for food services.
  • Address parent, student, and staff concerns.
  • Collaborate with school administrators to support site operations.
  • Promote participation in meal programs.

Safety & Risk Management 

  • Ensure compliance with all food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Maintain and monitor HACCP plans at all sites.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits.
  • Ensure proper handling of allergens and special diets.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in school food services or institutional food service.
  • Experience with federal child nutrition programs required.
  • Valid Arizona Food Handler Certification (or ability to obtain).
  • ServSafe Manager Certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of ADE and USDA regulations.

  • Strong organizational and financial management abilities.

  • Proficiency with food service software and reporting systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Frequent travel between school sites.
  • Work in kitchen and office environments.
  • Ability to lift 25-50 pounds occasionally.
  • May require early mornings or occasional evenings for events or audits.
