SALARY RANGE: Classified, Level 3

STATUS: Non Exempt/At Will

 

OVERVIEW

To transport students over scheduled routes and/or to and from special excursions; ensuring vehicle is in a safe operating condition; and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from buses and to provide support for the Nadaburg Unified School District and NUSD Governing Board.

 

QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED) or multiple years of successful related driving experience and CDL license required.

 

1. Holds valid Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles certification.

2. Has maintained a safe driving record.

3. Has knowledge of first aid procedures.

4. Must be able to pass the District bus driving test.

5. Is physically able to drive all types of transportation vehicles.

6. Relates to the public, staff members and students in a positive manner.

 

General Duties

Responsibilities should include, but not be limited to, the following:

  1. Transports students safely to and from school, on field trips, and to and from other special events.
  2. Advises students and other passengers of behavior requirements for the purpose of enforcing rules and regulations and maintaining safety.
  3. Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation.
  4. Assists students and other passengers for the purpose of providing safe ingress and egress from buses including both emergency situations (including bus evacuations) and normal transport.
  5. Attends meetings, training, etc. for the purpose of maintaining skills and meeting requirements of school bus certificate.
  6. Administers first aid if required.
  7. Inspects assigned vehicles (e.g. brake system, oil levels, coolant, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that the vehicle is in a safe operating condition
  8. Maintains assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior for the purpose of ensuring safety of vehicle, appearance, and sanitation.
  9. Reports to the Director immediately, in writing, any malfunction of the bus. 
  10. Maintains an accurate daily mileage log.
  11. Supervises the conduct of the students of the bus.
  12. Reports, in writing, student misconduct.
  13. Checks the assigned bus, reviews the bus routes, and becomes familiar with routes, policy revisions, and state regulations prior to taking the first bus run of the year and as needed thereafter.
  14. Assumes responsibility for the safety of all children while they are under the driver’s supervision.
  15. Performs additional duties as assigned
